Ravendon, I don't think this is bad at all after 10 years of not participating in championships
Congratz!!
Ow, and of course, good luck and success next time![]()
Well, the tournament had a decent turn out. My first day on Saturday was pretty bad. I lost my first game to a 10 year old kid rated 1320 as black. Then I crushed my 1450+ rated opponent as white. Then I drew a game against a 1600 rated guy after dropping 2 pawns in the opening. By the end of the 89th move, I had eliminated all his pawns and was in a King, Rook, Knight vs. King and Rook endgame, which ended up drawn as I couldn't escape the h file where he had me pinned.
The second day today was a bit better. I crushed my opponent as white and my last game, which was a must win in order to go over 50% for the tourney, I destroyed my opponent with the Mexican Defense, a favorite of my hero, Carlos Torre.
I met some new friends and saw some old ones again and didn't do too badly despite 10 years away from Chess.
The next major tournament will be in Madison, Wisconsin and I plan on doing a bit better next month. Well, at least I will hopefully, get my black defenses established. Right now, I'm really in flux and floating around trying to find something that fits my style and I can adopt. My old favorites are just too sharp and require too much memorization and staying on top of the latest wrinkles.

Thanks Dame, I still felt bad after the first game. As if I wasn't putting forth my best effort and all this time and money has been wasted.

Ravendon, you know - the world wasn't conquered in one day....
slowly, slowly - every phase is a learning process - and another step forwards![]()
Oh I suppose. But, I'm impatient. I didn't want to conquer the world. I would have been very happy to conquer a small town with a population of 24,507, in Wisconsin USA.
