Ranking/rating - 2007/05/04 13:54 Hi Alapin welcome to chesscircle Nice to have you here.

There are some statistics if you go to 'play chess online' and then click on 'players'.

Ranking/rating - 2007/05/11 13:11 Thnx Dame,

the statistics you mentioned are not complete and they will give as many points for playing against a lower rated player, as playing a GM!
I understand this site is new, but a rating would be nice; together with a small screen with the game so one can chat with his/her opponent (or just say have a nice game!)
grts Rob

Ranking/rating - 2008/03/08 18:04 I do not think we should go to a rating system.

It is true that the results are almost meaningless. However, that makes this site unique.

Because there is no rating impact, I can experiment more with openings and play a little more aggresively. This is not my major chess site and I spend only a few moments per move (in opposed to an hour or more on some moves in rated games). It is, however, a more fun site.

Ranking/rating - 2008/03/09 12:56 Perhaps an option of both? (I'm totally guessing here because I still have no idea if this rating thing can be implemented with the current software)

Ranking/rating - 2008/03/09 14:57 Implementing ratings would only attract engine cheaters with huge egos to the sight there is no point to it.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF

Ranking/rating - 2008/03/09 19:07 offcourse there wil be cheaters, but most off them operate in higer levels, and if one person with a high rating and refuses to introduce themself, is probably a cheater.
the other high ratings are good players and nice opponents to learn from!

Ranking/rating - 2008/03/09 19:10 I don't think it's necessary either. There are plenty of sites that have it if you need it - this site is kind of relaxed and has its own charm. On those sites players with higher ratings might avoid players with lower ratings (or vice versa of course). Without ratings everything feels freer.

Ranking/rating - 2008/03/10 02:52 I share lunarchecks idea. I like the atmosphere here playing for the love of the game. I don't mind the ratings. I am even backing out of my proposal to install timers here. This site is a comfortable one for me.
