Why Beginners Should Resign

In friendly games, do what you want. If the game is still interesting, play on. BUT: 1. Resigning when you have no real chance of winning is the mark of a good sportsman. 2. The argument that you can't learn and improve by resigning doesn't hold water, because by resigning and resuming play with the same player or another, you are working on the part of the game where your difficulty lies. If yo

Obviously I miss opportunities all the time, and namely get outplayed because I can't realy think ahead. To a lesser extent I read the Michael De La Maza articles. Equally important and it just resonated with me. I don't strictly think I'll b

Reason 2 - Why beginners should not resign....

Written by tbirdkiri
In a game with intermediate/expert chess players, if you blunder away a piece it usually makes good sense to resign because there is little doubt that your opponent will use the advantage to win. My theory is if the game is between beginners, however, you should *not* resign in such positions (in blitz/rapid). Two reasons: REASON 1: It is not the person who blunders *first* who should lose, but

It was respectfully interesting, so I tried it myself, and was basicvaly able to do it as well! My rating is about 1600, so ... Blitz chess: good, bad or just plain fun?

As an experienced chess player, I`ve always viewed blitz chess (e.g. 5 minutes for whole game) as being bad practice. Some people think it is beneficial. Others think it is neither good nor bad in terms of improving one`s chess. I personally think it develops bad habits based on lack of thinking, forced by the time constraints. It can, of course, be fun, but I`m purely considering a training
