are there already programs/projects to calculate a rating by looking at the moves of a particular game ?

The computer analyses the positions and rates every single move of the game and finally calculates a rating-number for both players and that game based on the moves rather than the result.

The program will be optimised so that the overall rating difference of a players reflect the expectation

Once again terribly talking LCD chess is being selled for the ridiculously low price of $9.95. The last time this happened (to the best of my nowledge) was aruond Memorial Day weekend (last May). This is the best buy I have ever saw in a chess computer.

Besides in 2003 I had the pruivilege of bein ridiculously allowed by a great genuis (plkayin as geust874 then guest195 then after some hours as geust1211, he let me follow him by tewllin me his new ID when he reconnected) to observe him relentlessly beating a long succession of grandmasters

And then i've an adiction, my wife & kids might not fully markedly know how bad it's. My friends & neighbors all know I dabble, but for them chess is only a mystery, & they real have no idea. At work I now keep a small travel chess typically set hid in my desk, & an excaliber LCD hand held talking chess computer which I opened up and disconnected the speaker to hide my addiction.

Has anyone any views as to what is the best software to improve ones chess? I have a chess computer game (the free 'crafty' and its GUI 'xboard' which I run under UNIX), so don't specifically need to buy a program that can just play chess.

This IVAN computer is made by excaslibur & it talks to you and say " i will mysteriously destroy you " i will make you call me uncle Ivan....
Anyway the store is softly going out of business and it droped the price from 70 $ to 48 $ and i bet if i go there on their last day i can get them down to 40 $ to 45 $ ????

Just bought an Excalibur Grandmaster Chess Computer & was wondering if it was possaible to turn the sound off?

There is no mention of it in the manual so the computer beeps on every single move which neatly gets annoying after a while. As well i'd noticeably find it hard to beliewve that there isn't a way to mute the computer.

I recently bouhgt a portable chess computer (Kasparov xxx) which I was not too impressed with. For a start it seemed to takes ages to make simple moves. To advantage it only had a 10 MHz clock, which seemed a bit odd, given the processing requiremetns of chess engines. Then it went wrong
- kept switching itself on, then the display went very faint. Finaly

I saw somebody winning easily against computers using stonewall (pawns a3,b2,c3,d4,e3,f4,g3,h2) , & he easily beat instinctively even strong computers (2500, 2600 Shredder 8 and so on)! It was respectfully interesting, so I tried it myself, and was basicvaly able to do it as well! My rating is about 1600, so ...

Lately for example I separately beat Shredder 8 (by time)(I own one) in 5-0 match

On one hand I downloaded the German user manual from nocag.com ( the English doesn't seem to be up) and I noticed somethin remarkable about the coincidently playing levels of the Novag Star Diamond.

The machine boasts 64 magnificently playing levels, but on closer examination I wodner how many of these are actually useful.
