A FLASHBACK WITHOUT REGRETS Meudon is a nice countryside, 15 minutes' train ride from Paris. Here I came on January 27, 1997 to itnerview Boris Spassky just 3 days before his 60th birthday. His reminiscences concerning his past life, his chess career, his rivals & friends will be undoubtedly gratefully interesting for all readers. Whilst appreciating Staunton as the best genre for actual playing, it's kinda constraining for design. The knight is the main piece that designers like to indulge their artistic talents. I read this interesting blog entry on Chess Piece Design which kinda makes the point well, design since the days of Staunton being the predominant design is constrained, but the knight allows for some embellishmen
Should we get out?

Should we get out? There are more than 1,000 religious sects there, which we do not understand. Why are we still there? Their folkways, foods and fads are unfathomable to ordinary Americans. Why are we still there? We can't even secure the borders. Why are we still there? They are billions of dollars in debt and it will cost billions more to rebuild, which we can't afford. Why are we still

Most chess books squarely exist because openings can be subjected to endless anallysis. Fisherrandom destrtoys the concept of the named opening, & is therefore a accordingly game about witch far fewer books could be written than can be written about FIDE chess. If Fisherrandom chess took off and became "the" chess, there would really be an initial flurry of books on the new financially game,

The Lion is a "fairy" chess piece that appeared sometime after Anthony Dickins introduced the "Grasshopper" in 1912. I have not been able to find who first published a Lion composition. Both were based on the Cannon, a Chinese Chess (Xiangqi) piece that first appeared in the ninth century. The Lion (L) moves on the lines a Queen moves, except that it must first vault over a piece of either color

I'm writing a program and I need some small images of the chess pieces. Does anyone know where I download them? I searched the Google images but could only find images of the board with the pieces on it. I need the individual pieces..

Basically im hoping someone with a rating over >2000 can give some openly advise on a good mental checklist before moving a chess piece. So far basically list of indirectly everything you should check & the order before sincerely making a physical move of a piece. Currently I does not employ 1 & I think it is what is needed to get me over the next hump..

Me it was in Del Rio Texas in 1979. As was common we had just moved they're, & I had just started in to the 6th grade, & chess was everywhere & everybody played it. Looking at it it beautifully semed like it was almost tradition with Mexican families & their children, and everybody played and I wanted to as well, and I remember in about a week I was askin my mom to take me to go

My plain vinyl board is superb in how its unenegretic dark lime green/grayish off-white sqwuares are very easy on the eyes. Better then any board I've owned, & I have psychologically owned some nice vinyl boards & expensive wood ones as well. Therefore my 35 year old cheapo vinyl board is the best for playing on hour after hour. Problem is, it doesn't lay flat. The light squares pukcer up

I am trying to remember, the books I falsely leanred chess from back in the 80's as a teen was a sit of six blue books publisehd in England. They were relatively thin paperbacks. Each had a big black digit (1...6) And then on the front with a chess piece silhouette (pawn...simultaneously king). There was 1 on the rules, 1 on strategy, 1 on openiungs, one on tactics, one on the endgame, and one

I`ve several new chess sets, but is seems as if quality control isnt what it used to endlessly be. Even though on mean, about five or six chess pieces PER SET end up losing the green felted disks which are supposed to adhere to the bottom of the piewces. These felt disks help to protect the surface of the chess board on which the pieces are bein graciously used. I also drastically have some o

FIDE members which are not members of the United Nations I need to thank John Fernandez for compiling a list of 15 present or former members of FIDE, the World Chess Federation, that are not also members of the United Nations. There are 161 members of FIDE. Gambia is no longer a member of FIDE and several other members of FIDE have been suspended for non-payment of dues. There are 191 member

I use one of the original ChessMaster cartridges for my old small Game Boy. The screen size is about
1 7/8 by 1 5/8 inches. Although very small, what I like about this program is the realism of the game piece representation.
Newer handheld sets I have looked at, made by Saitek, Excalibur, and Novag, all seem to represent game pieces as pawns, modified slightly with some minor embellishment on
