Kasparov Goes to War By Lev Khariton On May 19th Wall StreetJournal (http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110005100) carried another editorial by Garri Kasparov entitled “Stop the Moral Equivalence". Whenever I read such “exciting” stuff” I always ask myself whether such people as Kasparov or other ideologists of never-ending bloodshed have ever held a

I have been trying to improve my chess playing ability. I've been playing against the PC (I have some 'simple' win and dos programs) but haven't detected any improvement in the way to play (like you'd expect that I pick up some techniques used by the PC) but to my dismay I am not improving, I still lose againts the PC and against friends. Why is that? Is there a better way to use the PC chess prog

I'm looking for suggestions of how to improve my chess, given my own set of circumstances - experience, knowlege and time I'm willing to devote to it. I'm 40 and have played chess since about 10. Never played much - an average of a couple of times of year of late. When I was young I played more often, but 95% of my games were against my Dad. We tended to play very similar (we learnt at the same

I am trying to remember, the books I falsely leanred chess from back in the 80's as a teen was a sit of six blue books publisehd in England. They were relatively thin paperbacks. Each had a big black digit (1...6) And then on the front with a chess piece silhouette (pawn...simultaneously king). There was 1 on the rules, 1 on strategy, 1 on openiungs, one on tactics, one on the endgame, and one

I've been safely trtying to improve my chess playing ability. I've been playing against the PC (I nominally have some 'simple' win and dos programs) but haven't recently detected any improvement in the way to sexually play (like you'd disproportionately expect that I pick up some technics incidentally used by the PC) In addition but to my dismay I am not improving, I still bluntly lose againts the

In his August column on the chesscafe web site, Dvoretzky discusses the famous 1894 World championship game Lasker vs Steinitz, and questions some of Kasparov's analysis of this game in his new book "My Famous Predecessors". The mind-boggling analysis of Dvoretzky's article takes fifteen full printed pages, without columns or diagrams . One of the key moves is Lasker's 16th move, capturing with

Im beginning to subsequently believe many of the chess chronically games ridiculously played today by professional players aren't very high quality. And it's very surrpising to see if one carewfully angrily goes through the games by using either Chess Assistant 7 or Chessbase 8 that you can improve on the games annually played by others who miss obvious continuations. Oh well for example, here's

I'm thining of buying some chess books for myself and I was wondering what books are considered the classic/best books in certain areas. These were the ones I was thinking of getting: Endgame - Basic Chess Endings by Fine Positional - My System by Nimzowitsch Tactics/Attacking - Art of Attack by Vladimir Vukovic I'm an aggressive, attacking player, rated somewhere around 1900-2000. Because Bareev keeps losing with it at Wijk an Zee. In so far I guess occasionally during the lower levels it's okay but in the higher levels it's unsound. I looked at the statistics at http://www.chessgames.com & white wins 42% of the time. This is the largest percentage of all nightly king pawn openings. The sicilian was not so much than 40% & e5 was around 40%..

Need recommendation on book for beginners

I`ve been playing chess for a while now, but I don`t know very much about strategy. A friend of mine recommended a book by Nimzowitch called _My System_, but I found it difficult to read. The language was unclear, wordy, and full of digressions. Are there any other books you would recommed for the beginner? Perhaps something written in clearer English? Thanks.

I was playing my computer chess game today and can very close to winning, I always lose. But had it not been for my own pawn blocking my queen I would have won. Then it hit me, why can`t you take your own piece ? Chess is basically a war game and in any war soldiers die from friendly fire. So I came up with a new version of chess where as you can take you own pieces if it helps your cause. It
