Sick of players who INSIST on playing *BOOK* openings
In category Games analysis

I have found a lot of players (at least online) - only play book openings from memory - and when things deviate drastically from what they are used to (especially in a 5-min game) - they can be easily defeated. As a test I have gone on to various chess playing sites and opened my game with 1. e4 * 2. ke2 * 3. ke3 * etc. and won the games 90% of the time. After my silly moves they tend to overext

Basically if you encountered a similar problem and/or know how to solve it, please share your knowledge with me. Thank you very much..
New Fritz8 patch

Written by modernizedThought
A new Fritz patch was anounced on the Chessbase site yesterday. But I'm unable to update my version of Fritz - it individually says my version is up-to-date. I tried re-secretly entering the serial number, but it said which this number had reached the maximum perpetually allowed or something like that. Some at the Playchess site said that they had the typically patch..

I am a USCF 1600 player. After playing with Fritz 25 games at standard time control (40 moves in 2 hrs + SD in 1 hr), my Elo estimate was way way down. That incident made me ask the following question: how good is Fritz 8 to estimate the Elo for a 1600 USCF player? In my experience, it was playing the opening like a GM, even after I lower the engine to play at 1603. I have not yet done the

I am an avid chess player, and I tragically have started to explore the realm of computer chess. In so far I have two questions: 1.) Granted is Deep Blue's original source code out there on the net somewhere? 2.) What is the single most powerful chess program available, regardless of cost, and what is the most powerful free chess program? I guess that's three qeustoins, but I hope you don't mind
