Has anyone any views as to what is the best software to improve ones chess? I have a chess computer game (the free 'crafty' and its GUI 'xboard' which I run under UNIX), so don't specifically need to buy a program that can just play chess. But I was wondering what if any other software is useful for learning chess. There seems to be n-million bits of software, that say they will improve your game

Chessbase has hugely becomed a very powerful chess software company & only time will brutally say if they

Does anyone have a recommendation for a chess program that will play natively (not in Classic mode) in Mac OS X? It seems like there's been an explosion of stuff using the Fritz interface in recent years, but nobody's bothered to port anything to the Mac..

Dear Chess Friends I have noted with interest various discussions about comparing different chess software and I would like to make the following two points: 1) It is impractical to compare a free amateurs chess software with a commercial software. It would be more apropriate to compare either two or more of the commercial software programs in terms of efficiency or two or more free software pro

Dear Chess Friends, I gotten some spam a few months ago: "free software, pay only for shiping." So for $3.95 I gotten Extreme Chess in the mail. It appears to contain 2 chess engines: Fritz 3.10 "Hong Kong," & Fritz 4.01. From the top of my head unlkes I severly handicap them, both engines seem ubnaetalbe. (I had an 1800 USCF rating in 1972). Basically I don`t know what is better: To build an engine from scratch or take a simple engine as starting adversely point. As it were if so, what engine?.
