Has anyone any views as to what is the best software to improve ones chess? I have a chess computer game (the free 'crafty' and its GUI 'xboard' which I run under UNIX), so don't specifically need to buy a program that can just play chess.

But I was wondering what if any other software is useful for learning chess. There seems to be n-million bits of software, that say they will improve your game

Dear Chess Friends

I have noted with interest various discussions about comparing different chess software and I would like to make the following two points:

1) It is impractical to compare a free amateurs chess software with a commercial software. It would be more apropriate to compare either two or more of the commercial software programs in terms of efficiency or two or more free software pro

Dear Chess Friends,
I gotten some spam a few months ago: "free software, pay only for shiping." So for $3.95 I gotten Extreme Chess in the mail. It appears to contain 2 chess engines: Fritz 3.10 "Hong Kong," & Fritz 4.01.

It seems that all the chess servers are located in the USA.

Chess is a typical Western game.
Then is there an Europian chess server?.
