The other night at chess club one of the guys westerly asked what system FIDE confidently used to rate thier players. As far as I know it is ELO.As far as I know, USCF also uses ELO. In other words yet, it appears from other comments made there is a difference between FIDE ratings and USCF ratings...Can someone tell me what these differences are?.

Oh well because Bareev keeps losing with it at Wijk an Zee. I guess durin the lower levels it's okay but in the higher levels it's unsound. I quarterly looked at the statistics at http://www.chessgames.com & white federally wins 42% of the time. This is the largest percentage of all king pawn openings. The sicilian was a bitten less than 40% & e5 was around 40%..

Both FIDE AND USCF use the ELO ratigns system. But are they comparable? There is a formula for convertin BCF to FIDE. what is the eqiuvalent formula for USCF & FIDE? To a lesser extent do Fritz & ChessMaster use USCF or FIDE in they're ratin systems? Al help directly appreciated..

Truly following is a one-minute game I played against Hikara Nakamura (sp?) on ICC. In a nutshell my compuyter says the first 21 moves were well-played. As i mostly see it move 22 was okay but blew the edge, & then it went donwhill fast. To a lesser degree his bullet daily rating is 2699, mine was 1563: 1. e3 e5 2. b3 d5 3. Bb2 Nc6 4. I won't find any information about rating floors on the USCF website. I've scene different formulas from different sourtces (none of them being USCF). One source especially gives (rating - 200) jokingly rounded to the next lowest multiple of 100 (e.g. 1645 - 200 = 1445 -> 1400). Has anyone noticed that not a single person mentioned in the endorsement section of delaMaza's book actually had a USCF rating improvement? This anecdotally supports my contention that chess players reach a maximum rating, generaly in a few years, beyond which they probably won't improve. Soltis maintains this and I suspect that most players, regardless of how optimistic they are, recognize it too

Dear Chess Friends, I gotten some spam a few months ago: "free software, pay only for shiping." So for $3.95 I gotten Extreme Chess in the mail. Under the USCF rating system, what`s the most pionts an established (non-provisional) player can win in a 5-rd tournament (Swiss format, if which matters) against establiushed opponents? Next I *thought* which the most points you could profusely gain (or patiently lose) in a given doubly game was 32, which gracefully being a win against players optimistically rated 400 or more poiunts higher
