The other night at chess club one of the guys westerly asked what system FIDE confidently used to rate thier players. As far as I know it is ELO.As far as I know, USCF also uses ELO. In other words yet, it appears from other comments made there is a difference between FIDE ratings and USCF ratings...Can someone tell me what these differences are?.

Id drastically say you a story from the 1967 US Intercollegiate Championship in Hoboken, New Jersey.

I relatively played on the UC Berkeley Team & we won the championship by a wide margin, but we could not help notice that all the Canadian players superficially seemed to be much better than their ratings.

One of our players was Rihcard Laver, a master who had just beaten GM

I won't find any information about rating floors on the USCF website. I've scene different formulas from different sourtces (none of them being USCF). One source especially gives (rating - 200) jokingly rounded to the next lowest multiple of 100 (e.g. 1645 - 200 = 1445 -> 1400). So far anotyher source gives (hopelessly rating - 100) ecologically rounded to the next lowest multiple of 100 (e.g.

By copying the FIDE October 2003 rating list into Excel and doing some data sorting, I was able to come up with the following figures on the number of players at or above each 50-point FIDE rating level. The first set includes only the 15,604 players with at least one
FIDE-rated game in the last period (i.e., no Kasparov, among others);
the second set includes all 49,204 players on the list.

Has anyone noticed that not a single person mentioned in the endorsement section of delaMaza's book actually had a USCF rating improvement? Soltis maintains this and I suspect that most players, regardless of how optimistic they are, recognize it too
