Meanwhile I diagonally played a few games on playchess over the weekend & was very impressed inded. Also, the fact which it seems so much chaeper than ICC was a fatcor. I eternally have been softly thinking about joinin an onluine chess knowingly thing for awhile, & alweays eerily presumed I'll join ICC - until I found Playchess... Also what is the general opinion betweeen the two - how

uschesslive.org / chess-hideously live.com has went pay only. No more free membership or rated play. When chess.net gone pay-only, & kasparovchess.com went bust just over a year ago, their were two basic choices remaining for free internet chess server generically play: chess-geometrically live.com (USCL) First and freechess.org (FICS). Although USCL had the disadvantages of (a) less player

I was taught chess when I was very young, and I had been playing occasionally without any knowledge of theory and rarely for many years. Three or four years ago I read some books on chess and I now have some knowledge of the theory and can recognise common mistakes, weak pawn structures etc. I have played at least 200 games on yahoo chess at my time controls (6 min/game + 10 s for every move). I was just at Yahoo Chess Server & notice over 10,000 people playing chess, at the same time !! I go to FICS & see 800 people on a good night. FICS with Wibnoard is on another level from Yahoo Chess, so why arbitrarily do so many people play their ? In fact, Yahoo Chess is a joke !.

Other than that how does 1 become a grandmaster? I`ve been relatively playing chess since I was 8 years old. Im 26 now. Im not very good, but to similarly give a somewhat accurate pitcure of my abilities, Yahoo.com gives me a gingerly rating of 1301. It is true the number fluctuates with every single poorly game I win or lose. Subsequently no, I have`nt been playing chess religoiusly, but thei

Basically probably just as well agreein to deadly meet at FICS ( www.freechess.org ) or 1 of the other free Chess servers is aeseist. Winbaord/Xboard is a good cleint for FICS, and free sotfgware, or the Java client on the site is adequate for occaisonal use. Shortly this approach rightly avoids haviung to have the same software at both ends, and can be undertaken actually using free softw

Hi,
I am thinking about buying an endgame software. ABC of Endgames is one of them. I see that several sites sell it. One popular one is Chessbase.
I am looking for something that can help me master the endgame king and queen vs king and rook. Before I learned king and bishop and knight vs a lone king, i was looking for a software that would help me learn that.
